RAIL passengers will soon be seeing the results of a £3 million interior refurbishment of trains on the main line through Southampton to London and Bournemouth.
The 24-strong fleet of Wessex Electric trains is undergoing a revamp by operator South West Trains and train owner Angel Train Contracts, under an 18-month rolling contract at Eastleigh.
The interior refit aims to enhance passenger comfort and complement the fleet's new external livery that was introduced last year.
South West Train's marketing manager Hayley Bluett said: "The refurbishment aims to create a more pleasant travelling environment with enhanced facilities for the many passengers who use these popular commuter, business and leisure routes.''
The investment programme is being carried out at Eastleigh by Alstom Train Services in conjunction with Angel Train Contracts.
David Flynn, managing director of Alstom Train Services' renovation business, said: "The trains' new features offer enhanced comfort and styling which reflects the skills of our designers and craftsmen. By being selected to modernise this fleet we are pleased to be contributing to a very contemporary travelling experience for South West Trains' passengers.''
New colour schemes reflecting South West Trains' corporate colours are being introduced through new upholstery for both first and standard class seating areas. Upholstery will co-ordinate with new carpets and flooring throughout the trains, with new tables being fitted to first and standard class seating areas.
