THE success of Andover's major manufacturer in carving out a world-class business has been demonstrated to Hampshire Ambassadors during their latest best practice event.
Furniture maker, Ducal, established in East London 50 years ago, employs more than 900 people on ten factory sites. It is one of the market leaders in the manufacture of quality pine furniture in Europe.
Ducal managing director, Chris Berry, told the Ambassadors that the company's success was founded on a quality product, excellent customer service and dedicated staff.
"Our business is about keeping pace with a constantly changing marketplace. We aim to build long lasting relationships with the collectors of our furniture,'' said Mr Berry.
Speaking at the company's show centre, Mr Berry outlined Ducal's rigorous adherence to quality at every stage of production. This starts with the selection of the timber right through to the actual delivery of furniture. The company has invested heavily in the most modern manufacturing equipment and techniques and is committed to ensuring that everyone is fully trained with appropriate skills. During the Inside Hampshire Business visit, the Ambassadors were guided through every stage of the Ducal operation - from design to the finished article.
Commented Hampshire Ambassador, Alex Bible, of Elan Digital Systems at Fareham: "This visit proved that the UK can compete worldwide through design excellence, quality of manufacture and customer service."
