THEY make them tough on the polo pitch - and despite driving wind and rain four teams braved the weekend's elements for the County Galway Cup at the New Forest Spring tournament.
Saturday's match between the Cambridge- based Mad Dogs and Coombe Place was postponed for 15 minutes due to atrocious conditions. Mad Dogs went on to win the game 6-1, securing them the tournament's Little Poet runner-up cup.
The New Forest's own team beat Abshot Farm 4.5-1 to win the overall competition and secure the County Galway Trophy.
New Forest Polo Club chairman, one goaler Stuart Broughton played particu-larly well and was ably backed by one goal player Michael Willoughby.
The club, at New Park in Brockenhurst, also played host to a friendly junior tournament. "It was a great weekend, but on Saturday the weather was atrocious. Reigns became very slippery and riders couldn't see where they were going so we opted for a 15-minute break in the game," said New Forest Polo Club secretary Val Clitherow.
