Shirley missed out on a place in the British Champions' Cup regional finals after defeat by Portsmouth in the deciding match.

But the Hampshire Ladies' Super League side battled for the single place and Lisa Bowring levelled in the second after Jenny Ford won the opener for Portsmouth.

Jenny Fenton beat Sandra Wheeler and Betty Platt defeated Joanne Fox as Portsmouth went 3-1 up but Jane Allen and Sue Challis had wins against Jim Fraser and Eileen Smith as Shirley levelled at 3-3.

Then Dee Bennett beat Karen Griffin (Shirley) to earn the trip to the regional finals in August. l Ged Harrop reigned supreme in the first Hampshire Men's Super League grand prix knockout summer event.
