CORMORANTS Team Silly Baits Richie Yeo, just back from his honeymoon, proved the star performer in the fourth round of Financial Consultant Nigel Turner's Sunday Series on Broadlands Estate's Longbridge Lake.
Despite a drop in temperatures Longbridge once again produced a string of massive weights as the venue continued its excellent recent form.
Yeo, drawn on unfancied peg 31 on the canal, a peg not normally used, took a succession of carp to 10lb to the scales on the waggler and paste over pellet catching steadily throughout the match to finish well clear of the field and to book his place in the September final in the area's richest tournament.
Poingdestres' Dave Pool caught carp steadily in the later stages of the match from peg seven including fish to 8lb to book his place in the final with a 71lb 6oz bag taken on the waggler and paste.
Avon Angling's Andy Brown finished third with 55lb 3oz of carp taken from peg 40 on the canal to shade Cormorants Terry Randall who took 54lb 13oz to the scales from peg 21. Davis Tackle's Mickey Maidment finished fifth with 50lb 8oz with Garry Wright sixth with 48lb 8oz.
Individual points leader Cormorants Team Sillybaits Steve Rochester and Bournemouth Lodge's Chris Albiston lost ground as Cormorants Ray Hayward, Normark's Lee Woodhouse, Pewsey's Steve Pomery and Graham Tappenden closed the gap at the top of the table. Series after four rounds: S Rochester 161, C Albiston 157, R Hayward 156, L Woodhouse and S Pomery 148, G Tappenden 140, S Hemmings 139, G Wright 138, T Hiscock 134.
Eastleigh Waterfits Bob Drew fished the Selcom Block Invitation Match at Gold Valley Lakes and finished sec-ond with an 82lb bag of carp taken from peg one on Gold Valley on the ground bait feeder and maggot. Simon Gold took 88lb 6oz of carp on the big waggler and maggot from the Syndicate Lake to win the match with Jebb Attwood third with 78lb of carp from Spring Lake.
The Bournemouth Lodge Evening Series on Whitemoor Lakes saw Whitemoor proprietor Paul Miller notch up his fifth victory in the last seven matches on the venue. Miller took carp to 5lb in his 46lb bag taken on long pole tight to the island from peg seven. Bournemouth Lodge's Steve Hemmings followed his victory last week with runner-up spot this time round with 42lb 1oz of pole caught carp from peg 16. Nigel Fitzgerald finished third with 37lb 2oz with Mickey Maidment fourth with 36lb 1oz.
Thursday night's open on Stoneham went to Homestores Dean Rowden, who took 35lb 11oz of carp and tench from peg one. Rowden took two large carp plus several tench to nearly double the weight of his nearest rival all taken on the pole and corn. Kev Hatcher finished sec-ond with 18lb 8oz which consisted of three small cap and tench taken on the pole from peg 5. Mick Marsh finished third with 9lb 6oz. Others: J Mason 7lb 2oz, D Self 6lb 6oz.
The Bank Holiday weekend sees the three-day Wytherington Farm Festival with a host of the area's top anglers competing on the popular Downton venue.
