BURRIDGE are looking to left-hander Matt Compton, their rising Hampshire Cricket Board NatWest Trophy batting star, to stave off the threat of a third successive Peter Cooper Volkswagen Southern League defeat against Bournemouth at Botley Road tomorrow (1pm).
Compton has been in a rich vein of form for the Board's triumphant NatWest side, hitting an undefeated century against Suffolk and a crucial 59 against Shropshire in midweek.
Now winless Burridge want the talented Islander to reproduce his NatWest form in the Southern League . . . and help them claw their way clear of the lower reaches of the table.
Bournemouth, who bounced back from an opening day defeat at Havant to thrash Calmore Sports by nine wickets, are without Dorset skipper Stuart Rintoul, who has a fractured wrist.
It's a "must win" situation for Calmore Sports and BAT Sports, who clash at Loperwood Park.
Calmore are unchanged, despite the Bournemouth setback, but BAT - beaten by both Portsmouth and Havant - expect Simon Preston to have recovered from a back injury.
Unbeaten champions Hungerford face a stern test at Portsmouth. If they lose, Bashley (Rydal) could go top for the first time in their history.
Bashley are unchanged against Waterlooville, who lost heavily to newly-promoted Alton last weekend. Ian Chivers is recalled by unbeaten Winchester KS, who visit Alton.
Lymington include Southampton University pace bowler Will Follett against Hambledon. Pace bowler Richard Taylor is called up for his first match of the season against visiting Wellow & Plaitford, strengthened by the return of Mark Page and the arrival of Paul Eversfield.
Pick of the Hampshire League programme is Hursley Park's visit to Sparsholt. Unbeaten Leckford face a tricky test at Easton & Martyr Worthy.
