SOUTHERN Water is hosting three workshops to help smaller companies deal with the millennium bug.

The company is backing the joint Action 2000 and industry initiative to help smaller firms who are less likely to be ready for the millennium change without some help.

"There are many small businesses across our region and we are pleased to be able to support the efforts of Action 2000 in helping them prepare for the turn of the century,'' said Ian Fielding, head of the company's Year 2000 project team.

"We are working to provide a normal service over the millennium and an in-house team has been dealing with the issue for more than 18 months but clearly smaller companies do not have that sort of resource and it is important we help them.''

The local workshop will take place at Otterbourne on June 9.
