FIVE HAMPSHIRE tennis juniors have been given a day they will always remember.
Tom Rowberry (10) from Basingstoke, Peter Burjan (10) of Tadley, Michael Privett (9) from Gosport, Alistair Byron (9) of Alresford and Peter Francis (9) from Eastleigh were invited by former British number one Mark Cox to a Rover Activity Day at Bath.
Together with his team of coaches, Cox, the Director of the Rover Junior Tennis Initiative (JTI) which supports 150 of Britain's most exciting prospects, devised a series of tennis and physical fitness-related activities so that the youngsters could show what they were capable of on court.
The Rover Activity Days are part of a new nationwide talent-spotting programme co-ordinated by Cox and his team of Rover coaches, taking place at ten centres, with players invited from every region of Britain. Children who show potential may be selected to be a part of the Rover JTI in the future.
Cox said: "We saw a number of talented youngsters at Bath and had the chance to advise them on what it takes to become a successful player.
"We will no doubt keep in touch with them and follow their progress".
