MORE than 6,000 people flocked to Sparsholt College near Winchester for a major open day to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
The event offered something for everyone, including exotic animals, helicopter rides, a chance to look at old farming machinery and expert informa-tion on gardening.
A careers forum also proved a big hit with those considering jobs in the agricultural field.
"The whole day was a tremendous success and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves," said marketing and training adviser Claire Slowey.
"A lot of families came from all over the county and the terrapins and pythons in the tropical house were a big attraction.''
On Friday, before the open day, special work-shops were held at the college for more than 800 Hampshire schoolchildren.
Charlie Dimmock, of the BBC's Ground Force programme, and author Ann Hall, who wrote a book about the Women's Land Army during the Second World War, were among the guests.
The event, coupled with a reunion of former students on Saturday evening, was one of the biggest ever staged by the college.
