TAKING THE STRAIN: Medal winner Darren Sherwood.
A Fareham teenager is celebrating after scooping a silver medal in a major weightlifting competition.
Darren Sherwood from Hunts Pond Road narrowly missed out on gold at the European Power Lifting Championships in Jersey. Darren, 18, a student at Fareham College, said: "I was naturally disappointed but I have recently moved up a weight, which has made it more difficult for me in competitions."
This latest success adds to the silver medal British champion Darren won at the World Championships in Austria last November.
Darren, who trains at the Weights Room gym in Hedge End, said: "I enjoy power-lifting because it's a challenge. I like pushing myself to the limit. When you are lifting you just try and try and try until you get there."
