EASTLEIGH got into the continental mood as the Flag of Europe fluttered proudly over the borough.

Eastleigh Twinning Association marked Europe Day with a short ceremony outside the civic offices in Leigh Road. Raising the flag was the mayor of Eastleigh, Margaret Kyrle, watched by members of the association.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Council of Europe which was set up in London in May 1949. The Flag of Honour of the Council of Europe was awarded to Eastleigh in 1983 for its achievements in international co-operation.
