SEARCH: The locket which police hope to reunite with the owner.

THIS silver locket holds for one family happy memories of those long lazy sunny days at the seaside.

The treasured memento has turned up at Eastleigh Police Station and its ownership is a puzzle to officers who want to return it to the family. The station's property manager Ann Westcott has asked the Daily Echo to help unlock the locket mystery.

She said: "It is obviously of sentimental value and we would like to return it to the family who have lost it."

Inside the flower patterned locket, is a cameo picture of a boy and girl, aged between five and eight years, with the seaside as the backcloth. Facing them is a picture of a couple, in their thirties and forties. It was taken in what seems to be a lounge room setting with a plate and horse brasses on the wall. There is a Seventies look about the scene.

The locket was in a jewellery box handed in as found property at the Leigh Road station where it has been in safe custody for about a month. No one has yet claimed it and police are hoping that the Daily Echo photo will provide a vital clue to its ownership.

Ann said: "This locket probably holds happy memories and has got to belong to someone. If anyone recognises it we would like to hear from them so we can return it."
