Winchester Hockey Club's Under 16 Indoor Team have capped a successful season by winning Junior Team of the Year at the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Awards, held at the Hampshire Rose Bowl last week.
The award, presented by Chris Tremlett, Hampshire and England cricketer, follows their success at the National Indoor Championship in Kidderminster where they beat Hampshire rivals Portsmouth Grammar School to become National Champions.
Louise Rowland, Sports Development Officer at Winchester City Council, who nominated the team for the award said: "Winchester Hockey Club Under 16 Indoor Team has performed outstandingly throughout the last 12 months particularly to become indoor U16 champions. The city council would like to congratulate the team on their successes over the past year and wish them well for the future."
Not that the team can afford to sit back and admire their trophies just yet. This weekend they compete in the semi-final of the Hampshire Cup, and should they win their final fixture of the season, against Southampton, they will top the Hampshire Under 16 League.
