Valley's Simon is in the Pink
Test Valley was the venue for the Alliance Bowl, traditionally a four ball better ball bogey competition played over 18 holes.
Following the long dry spell, Test Valley resembled a links course in high summer with the ball running fast on both fairways and greens, again on a typically fine Alliance day.
The trophy was keenly contested by two pro-am pairings well ahead of the field. Victory went to Simon Pink (Meon Valley) and Rob Giddings (Waterlooville) with a fine score of +9, each player providing five birdies with only one hole being lost in second place.
Just one behind were Matt Tryhorn (Corhampton) and Howard Brace (Royal Winchester), who were unable to capitalise on a front nine which yielded six birdies.
Way back in equal third place, on +4, were Simon Hill & Tony Parker (both Alresford), Charlie Gold (Tidworth) & Brian Osborne (Waterlooville), Gary Stubbington (Hockley) & Ian Walton (the Army) and Richard Woolley (Basingstoke) & Tony Billson (Test Valley).
The amateur section also threw up clear winners in Dave Mecklenburgh (Hockley) and Louis Stephenson (Lee-on-the-Solent). They recorded a fine score of +3, five shots ahead of Colin Herring (Corhampton) & Bob Watson (Dummer).
Herring & Watson teamed up with Ian Powell (unattached) & David Farr (Alresford) to win the afternoon nine-hole team Stableford competition.
