SIXTEEN pupils from 11 infant schools around the Totton and Waterside area braved foul weather to take part in the Totton and Eling Tennis Centre Year 2 schools tournament.
The centre had provided curriculum-time coaching to approximately 700 local Year 2 children and identified the players, aged six years old or seven, as the most talented in their year group.
Schools taking part were Lydlynch, Netley Marsh, Copythorne, Oakfield, Foxhills, Orchard, Marchwood, Eling, Hazelwood, Calmore and Hythe.
Hythe Primary School's Josh Hosier won the tournament.
However, Megan Holgate, from Hazelwood School, deserves a special mention. She was the only participating girl.
The tournament marks the beginning of a summer festival of schools tennis for youngsters in the Totton and Waterside area.
Tournaments are to be held at the Totton and Eling Tennis Centre for pupils in Year 2 through to Year 8, aged between six and 13.
