SHAUN UDAL will almost certainly get the chance to continue his Test career next month.
Udal, who was back at the Rose Bowl training with Hampshire yesterday, ended England's tour of India as a national hero with a 4-14 burst to help his side to a series-levelling Third Test win.
And coach Duncan Fletcher yesterday admitted England are in no hurry to rush back No 1 spinner Ashley Giles, who missed the India trip through a hip injury.
So Udal appears in pole position to win his fifth Test cap at the end of 37 against Sri Lanka at Lord's which starts five weeks today.
Giles' injury is causing concern, but Fletcher took a relaxed view on his progress along with that of Michael Vaughan and Simon Jones.
"We have had a chat to them and things seem to be all right at the moment," he said. "They need their rest, they will get it, and we will see how they develop.
"Having spoken to the medical guys, it will take some time for all of them to get over these injuries."
Hampshire were hosting Worcestershire in a two-day friendly starting today.
