PURPLE and green filled the skies at Knight's Enham schools on Friday when children and adults released balloons in their continuing campaign to stop the possible closure.

Some 400 balloons were released to cheers and applause by the gathered parents and councillors. It was organised by the parent campaign committee and Sir George Young, Cllr David Kirk and other councillors joining in.

Samantha Oakley, of the parent committee, said: "We released them so people know what we're fighting for."

Hampshire County Cllr, and executive member for education, David Kirk who also released a balloon is in charge of taking a decision to the cabinet in July.

"Whatever I decide, someone will no doubt be disappointed but I really hope not to disappoint anybody," he said.

Sir George Young, who also released a balloon, hopes this event will influence Cllr Kirk's decision.

"These schools are an important part of the community on the estate - I have every sympathy with the parents and the teachers," he said.
