A WAREHOUSE was gutted by fire on Wednesday night.
More than 100 firefighters from across southern Hampshire, including Romsey, tackled the blaze at STS Eurolink's storage and distribution depot in Andes Road on the Nursling Industrial Estate.
Fire broke out in the 24-metre by 18-metre building just before 11pm. Redbridge fire station's divisional officer in command, Graham Reeve, was first on the scene and said there was nothing firefighters could do to save the building.
"The building was totally destroyed. It will be very difficult to ascertain the cause of the fire because there is little left of the building. It's just twisted steelwork.
"It was well alight when we got there and little we could do. We couldn't get inside and had to withdraw crews because the fire was so severe. The building started to buckle in the intense heat and the sides pulled in towards the middle."
Watsons fuel depot is close to the site of the fire but was not threatened by the blaze, said divisional officer Reeve.
