ANDOVER eye patients are being treated quicker thanks to a new £70,000 machine at Andover War Memorial Hospital.
The machine - used to remove cataracts - replaces an older one at the hospital that is no longer serviceable.
Consultant ophthalmologist Jenny Watts said: "The new machine is more powerful and safer for the patient's eye.
We can now operate on more complex cases in Andover."
Each year about 350 cataract operations are performed at Andover's day care unit. The average waiting time is less than three months, well within the national target.
Trust chief executive Chris Evennett added: "I hope local people will see this investment as a sign that we want to improve and increase day surgery at Andover.
"We know there have been concerns about losing services but the truth is that we see this hospital playing a key role in providing a wide range of first-class local anaesthetic procedures and outpatient clinics."
