MOTTISFONT started a tough run-in of possibly twelve games in the month of April with victory over local rivals Broughton at Buckholt Road last Saturday.

Font started quite brightly, going on the attack and stretching the home defence, and it took a superb save from Broughton keeper Gary Collis to keep out Alan Bundy's fierce drive.

The home side tried to set up attacks of their own, but their attempts, not helped by the strong wind, fizzled out with Paul Fielder dominating his area.

The Font were becoming the stronger side and deservedly went in front when Nobby Carr scored with a glancing header past Collis.

It wasn't long before they increased their lead. A cross from the left reached Jon Cook, who bravely beat the keeper and clipped the ball into the net before a bone-jarring collision with Collis that left both requiring treatment.

At the interval, Broughton manager and ex-Font payer Paul Blackmore whipped up his side's enthusiasm, and they had a right go at the Font defence.

They reduced the lead with a free-kick from the left hand side. Ryan Wareham crossed, and Stuart Griffiths stole in at the far post to finish easily.

Within ten minutes Broughton drew level when Michael King conceded a penalty for a foul on Scott Vidler. Sam Flack missed from the spot, but the ball rebounded back off the post and Griffiths reacted quickly to slam in the equaliser.

Broughton were now on top and were stretching the Font defence, but the visitors' character shone through when Alan Smith headed them in front.

Soon after, they added a fourth when the home side conceded a free-kick down by the corner flag. Keith Smart swung the ball in and it went directly into the net.

Broughton tried to up their game, but Font defended well and went further ahead when a centre from the right was redirected into the middle by Keith Smart, enabling Alan Bundy to head the Font's fifth goal.

Broughton never gave up, putting the title favourites under tremendous pressure. They could have easily scored a couple more themselves if it had not been for Paul Fielder, in the Font goal, who made four or five good saves.
