Sir.-I urge the council to do a full structural survey at Basingstoke's Haymarket Theatre.
The other night the joint was rocking with the performance of Return to the Forbidden Planet and I fear for the foundations!
Who would have thought that a mix of rock and roll, a 1950s sci-fi B movie and Shakespeare could work? But add an extremely talented group of actor musicians and the effect is electric!
But what's the matter with the people of Basingstoke? There were spare seats when we were there.
When this show returns to the West End, as it surely must, you'll have to pay loads more to see it.
And with the Haymarket under threat through the Arts Council withdrawing its funding, we must all remember - use it or lose it.
