THE magic of music is set to be enhanced for Basingstoke pupils - thanks to Hampshire County Council signing up to a Government initiative.
The National Music Manifesto will ensure children have access to a wide range of musical experiences.
Councillor David Kirk, Hampshire County Council's executive member for education, said: "We are committed to providing the best opportunities for the county's children and young people.
"In agreeing to sign up to this manifesto, we will offer an enhanced musical experience to children - nurturing young talent and ensuring all children can enjoy the magic of music."
One of the manifesto's key aims is to nurture talented musicians, while at the same time improving opportunities for all children to enjoy music in its many different forms.
Primary Proms at The Anvil in Basingstoke in July 2006 will offer an opportunity for 3,000 youngsters to experience their first-ever music concert.
In addition, there are plans to introduce schemes that will give many more children first-hand experience of playing a wide range of instruments in schools.
The cost of providing an enhanced music programme, as a result of signing up to the manifesto, will be met from existing music budgets.
