PROJECTS across Hampshire aimed at raising religious awareness have received a £30,000 funding boost.

Hampshire County Council has awarded the money to the Faith and Communities Network and the Youth Interfaith Forum.

The network is designed as a place where people from different religions can meet to exchange views and ideas.

New projects under way with the youth forum include developing a new website and newsletter, setting up sporting and cultural events, organising debates and visits to places of interest.

Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Ken Thornber, said: "To create stronger and safer communities where everyone feels included it is vital that we dispel myths about each other's cultures and religions.

"Doing so will go a long way towards helping create better understanding, tolerance and respect among people."

The next Interfaith Forum will take place on Thursday at 1pm in the Guildhall, Winchester.
