STUDENTS parking along a narrow residential street are causing traffic chaos for the people living in the area.
A 115-name petition has been handed to Fareham Borough council from residents of Newtown Road angry with the number of students blocking up their street.
The students are leaving their cars dotted along the lengthy road and walking up to the Warsash Maritime College for lectures.
Ward councillor Trevor Cartwright has blamed the problem on building works which started at the college last September.
He said: "The college has asked students to park in the Working Men's Club car park, but unfortunately they were unable to enforce this on students.
"Once the building works are completed, the car parking capacity will be the same as before, and hopefully the problem will be rectified.''
A spokesman for Southamp-ton Solent University, which operates the centre, said they had consulted with the police and the council and that letter had been sent to residents explaining the new measures.
He added that building work would shortly be completed and that they hoped the problem would be resolved.
The Warsash Residents Association is holding a meeting tonight in the Victory Hall, Warsash Road and the issue of Newtown Road is on the agenda. It starts at 7.30pm.
