DELIGHTED youngsters from a Hampshire school have hosted a dozen octogenarians to celebrate the Queen's birthday and learn more about their history.
Children in years five and six at St John the Baptist Primary School, in Titchfield Common, have been hard at work on their projects, entitled Voices from the Past.
The final touch, though, was to invite the elderly people for tea and a bit of storytelling.
Head teacher April Owen-Jones said: "The children have been researching life over the past 80 years and this tied in with the Queen's birthday.
"To complete their course booklet they prepared questions that they asked the pensioners over a nice cup of tea."
The oldest visitor was 91-year-old Ruby Edwards, who used to be a teacher at the school. She told tales of how she has watched it grow and develop.
At the end of the day every child received a commemorative coin to mark the Queen's birthday.
