A BUSINESSMAN is offering a £1,000 reward after being left in a state of disbelief at the low morals or Romsey's thieves who prey on people visiting cemeteries.

Micky Hatch lost two satellite navigation systems and a brand new briefcase containing all his accounts and invoice details as well as his passport and driving licence when the thieves struck last Wednesday

He heard glass being shattered while he worked on testing the strength of the headstones at Romsey's Botley Road Cemetery at around 2.30pm.

"It didn't cross my mind that the glass being broken was the window of my van," he said, adding that since the theft of his property he had discovered that thefts from cemeteries in Hampshire are not as rare as they appear to be in Kent.

And as he offered a £1,000 reward for the return of his property or for information leading to that return, he said: "I'm just so incensed and I'm just in a state of disbelief that someone would do anything like that in a cemetery.

"I'm a businessman and with the accounts and all the diary of our work for the month being stolen, it will cost the business about £15,000. The diary is the most important piece."

He spent the entire weekend at his business base in Kent trying to go back over the work he had done during the month. Ironically, he had decided to put a second 'sat nav' system in the vehicle because the first one didn't find the Botley Road Cemetery.

One of the systems is a Medion MD with a number beginning 95000 and the other is a Mi Tac Mio with the model number 168.

It is possible that the brief case may have been abandoned with the documentation still inside when the thieves failed to find any money.

Anyone who discovers its whereabouts is asked to contact him on 07976 369665 or Romsey Police - the thefts have been reported - on 0845 045 45 45.
