Variety was the key during the Rovers Tackle midweek pegged catch-and-release open at Stokes Bay.
Plaice, flounders, rockling, whiting, pout, smoothhound, bass, dogfish and a thorneback ray were recorded and Chris Clark from Lymington landed 19 fish, measuring 575cm, to win.
Runner-up was Dave Ware from Havant, with 264cm, followed by Nick Hayter from Southampton, with 227cm, and Mick Goodger, with 220cm.
Goodger from Southampton carried off the prize for the longest fish with the thorneback ray, a nice one measuring 83cm.
The second-longest fish was Clark's 62cm dogfish. Les Barstow from Fareham landed a 59cm dogfish.
The next Rovers midweek pegged open catch-and-release shore competition will be at Lee-on-the-Solent on May 11 (fishing 8pm-11.30). Good rays can again be expected, along with silver eels, bass, pout, dogfish and decent plaice.
Tickets (pre-book only) are £5 - full details from the crew at Rovers Tackle (01329 220354).
