WELLA may have cancelled its sponsorship with the Bison, but it has formed a new sporting link-up in town after electing to sponsor the Cycle Club Basingstoke.
The cash injection will help CCB in many ways, including helping team members, who will be taking part in a nine-day bike ride in aid of Basingstoke's St Michael's Hospice.
The team of experienced cyclists will ride from Land's End to John O'Groats, raising money en route.
Together with a busy racing programme, the skilled riders will travel 140 miles each day to complete the journey to John O'Groats in approximately eight days.
"We are delighted to be able to sponsor the Cycle Club Basingstoke this year throughout their racing programme, and are especially pleased that their funds will raise money for the local worthwhile charity. We wish them every success," said Steve Lowe, managing director for Wella UK.
Cycle Club Basingstoke was originally set up in the 1970s and now consists of many members who meet every Sunday.
"We are absolutely delighted to have Wella as our sponsor for 2006. Their input into the club cannot be underestimated and having a company with such strong Basingstoke links is the perfect partnership," said Bernie Charlick, chairman of Cycle Club Basingstoke.
CCB meet every Sunday morning at the Victory roundabout, at the west end of Alenon Link, gathering at 9am.
