SAINTS clinched runners-up spot in the Premiership Reserve League South division for the second season running last night.

They defeated rock bottom Norwich City 2-0 at Staplewood with goals from David Prutton, playing only his second match after a long lay-off with an ankle injury, and Josh Dutton-Black.

But Saints might have played their last match in that division.

The Premier League shareholders met yesterday with the reserve league restructuring on their agenda.

One option they were considering was to only have Premiership clubs in the south league.

That would mean Saints, Leicester, Watford, Ipswich, Coventry, Crystal Palace and Norwich all dropping out.

Instead, Saints might end up playing in the Football Combination against the likes of Stevenage and Barnet - a long way away from playing the London elite they have been used to.

Alternatively, Saints could opt to play in the Pontins Holiday Combination West, the reserve league for the likes of Bournemouth, Swindon, Plymouth and the Bristol clubs.

Saints reserve boss Stewart Henderson fielded his usual youthful side last night, with Prutton providing the only real experience.

Saints Res: Poke, Anaclet, Bale (Critchell 75), Prutton, Lancashire, Cranie, Condesso, McGoldrick, Blackstock (Dutton-Black 38), Gillett, Sparv. Subs: James, Lallana, Z Jones.
