Portchester Players are presenting their production of the 1970's cult play Abigail's Party at Portchester Community Centre, Westlands Grove, Portchester until tomorrow night.
Set in the 1970s, this cringingly funny play deals with the overbearing Beverley who, together with her stressed, estate agent husband Laurence, has invited her neighbours over for drinks and nibbles.
The neighbours are the hapless Angela, her husband, the boorish Tony, and Sue, whose 15-year-old daughter, Abigail, is hosting her first party.
As the evening progresses, the gin and tonics flow and the group struggles to maintain the false politeness between them.
Written by Mike Leigh, Abigail's Party was first performed at the Hampstead Theatre in 1977.
The television version was screened as a Play For Today on BBC1 later that year.
Both starred Alison Steadman as Beverley and Janine Duvitski as Angela.
Tickets for the Portchester Players production are £7 with concessions priced at £5.50. Call 023 9279 2238 or 023 9238 0639, or just come along on the night.
Shows tonight and tomorrow night start at 7.30pm.
