Hampshire anglers scooped all the major awards during the Swanage & District SAC Charity Open Shore pegged competition held along the town beach.

Big-hearted anglers raised nearly £350 for the Save The Children Fund and the Swanage Pier Restoration Project.

The overall match winner was Chris Clark from Lymington who landed two ballan wrasse, three corkwing wrasse, along with a pollack and a shore rockling, together measuring 167cm, during the event which was judged to the measure and return system.

To round off an excellent event, Clark also collected the pool for the longest round fish - he recorded pollack and shore rockling both measuring 33cm.

Andy Parkhill from Fareham was the runner-up with one ballan wrasse, four corkwing wrasse and a pouting, together measuring 107cm, followed by Uwe Brown from Winchester who recorded a brace of plaice and a corkwing wrasse for 69cm.

The pool for the longest flatfish was shared between Keith Wood, with a 27cm flounder, and Uwe Brown, with a 27cm plaice.

Tony O'Grady, a 45-year-old welder from Fareham, romped to victory during the Chesil Championships, staged along the western end of Chesil Beach, after landing a solitary ballan wrasse of 2lb 5oz. He also collected £167 in pools for the heaviest round fish.

O'Grady used ragworm presented on a size 2 hook fished at range to tempt the specimen from the Burton Bradstrock section.

Generally the action was pretty slow with just 22 of the 167 competitors returning fish to the scales. The catch comprised dogfish, ballan wrasse, plaice and flounders.

The runner-up was Tom Fisher with a brace of small dogfish weighing just 2lb 3.5oz, to nudge out Ben Bradstock with a trio of small plaice weighing 1lb 13oz.

No juniors or ladies returned fish to the scales.

The eagerly anticipated black bream have started to appear, with a number of fish already recorded from Christchurch ledge - including some real biggies for the time of year.

Jan Tryska got a taste of the action while fishing over the ledge from his own small boat 'Holy Mackerel'.

Included in his catch was a cracking specimen for the time of year which tipped the scales down to 4lb 4.5oz. He caught all his fish on a size 1 hook baited with ragworm and then tipped off with a sliver of squid.
