JOBcentre workers in Southampton are due today to take part in a second day of strike action over proposed job cuts
Supervisors, lone parent advisers, and new deal advisers yesterday congregated outside the Woolston Jobcentre in Hazel Road to form a picket line.
Around 12 members took part in the protest, armed with banners with the slogan "Stop the Cuts", as part of a national 48-hour strike today and tomorrow.
They are angry at plans to axe 30,000 civil service posts in jobcentres, benefit offices and the Child Support Agency.
A spokesman for the Southampton branch of the Public and Commercial Services Union said: "We help people apply for the allowance and offer advice and support to people who want to get back to work including those with learning difficulties and mental health issues.
Staff at the Woolston jobcentre were told to reapply for their jobs because it is due to close in December.
Some may be redeployed to the two other city centre jobcentres, both situated in the High Street.
Across Hampshire bosses at the Department for Work and Pensions, responsible for jobcentres, want to get rid of 40 supervisory posts.
All three jobcentres are to remain open during the strike action.
