TEN Hampshire swimmers have set a record by winning top lifesaving awards.
They have become the largest ever group of swimmers from the same club to received distinction awards from the Royal Lifesaving Society.
The youngsters, aged 16 and 17, from the Applemore Health and Leisure Centre in Dibden managed to complete a tough series of lifesaving challenges.
They were presented with their awards by the president of the Wessex Royal Lifesaving Society, Chris Lewis.
Applemore's lifesaving club swimming coach Viv Dando was given a National Honours Certificate for his 30 years' service to the RLSS and a bar towards his silver cross.
"This is an amazing achievement from this swimming group," said councillor Barry Rickman, New Forest District Council's leisure boss.
"The dedication shown not only by the swimmers but also by the trainer and instructor, Viv Dando, is to be applauded.
"The residents of the New Forest should be very proud of the success of these young people."
