NORMAL lessons were off for pupils at a Southampton school when they devoted a whole day to health and fitness.
Youngsters at Shirley Junior took part in a sponsored activity day to raise money for two very good causes.
Half of the cash raised will be put towards buying a huge new container to store their PE equipment and the rest is being donated to the BBC Radio Solent Daisy Appeal.
Breakfast show presenter Julian Clegg, pictured right with pupils and staff, broadcast his programme live on air from the school to support the children's efforts. He dropped into Shirley Junior's breakfast club to hear all about what the children were doing to support the Daily Echo-backed Daisy Appeal.
Pupils then took it in turns to go to nearby Bellemoor Boys' School where they took part in a range of sports activities.
BBC Radio Solent is aiming to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds through the Daisy Appeal for Wessex Cancer Trust this year. Head teacher Mike Brogan said: "We have now got somewhere accessible at ground level to store our quality PE equipment and also raise money for a fantastic cause, the Daisy Appeal."
