Shane Warne has insisted that Hampshire harbour no bitterness towards David Fulton.

At the Rose Bowl tomorrow, Hampshire will come face to face with Fulton for the first time since the then Kent captain gifted Nottinghamshire the county championship at the end of last season.

Fulton is no longer the Kent skipper but is expected to play tomorrow - eight months after agreeing to chase 420 from 70 overs against eventual champions Nottinghamshire in the penultimate match of last season.

It was never likely to be a successful chase and so it proved.

Kent were bowled out for 205 and their 214-run defeat ensured that Nottinghamshire clinched the championship title at Canterbury - and avoided a tense last match of the season against Hampshire at The Rose Bowl.

It left Warne fuming.

At the time, Hampshire's captain said: "I still can't believe that David Fulton actually agreed to that target. They were never going to get 420 from 70 overs and I can't believe David Fulton was so silly.

"I thought he was an intelligent cricketer but he's obviously not as smart as I thought he was because that was just ridiculous.

"You don't just hand someone else the championship. Over a period of time that decision will absolutely come back and bite them big time."

Hampshire also lodged a formal complaint with the England and Wales cricket Board, and Fulton further antagonised Warne by saying that the ECB had given the matter "short shrift".

But, on the eve of Hampshire's latest championship match at The Rose Bowl, Warne has insisted that a third successive victory, and not revenge, is the primary focus for his players.

He said: "David Fulton's decision was last year, we're looking forward to this year and we're off to a good start and we want to continue that.

"It will be another tough match, Kent's batting is very, very strong so we'll have to be at our best but if Chris Tremlett is okay everyone will be fully fit."

Hampshire manager Paul Terry said: "We've moved on from last year and with Kent having a new captain (Rob Key) I'm sure they have as well."

Former Kent batsman Michael Carberry will be aiming to continue his good form for his new county after his maiden Hampshire hundred against Warwickshire at Edgbaston two weeks ago.

Warne added: "Our batters are batting well, we've got more than 400 in our last two first innings, Carbs is coming into the game off a hundred and Dominic Thornely batted superbly in his last one-day game."

Hampshire will be looking to avenge their recent last-ball C & G Trophy defeat against Kent and have added in-form Michael Brown to the squad that beat Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

The opening batsman followed up a century for the second XI with a career-best 133 against Loughborough UCCE, his third first-class ton, last week.

There is no place for the fit-again James Tomlinson but Warne is delighted to have the left-arm pace bowler back in contention after a year out with a rib injury.

He added: "We're glad we've got Tommo back, he had a frustrating time last year and it'll be good to have him involved when he gets the chance because he gives us good variation."
