A NEW £1m adult learning project was being launched today in Hampshire.
The Jeffery-Machin Foundation has been set up following a bequest of almost £1m to the Workers' Educational Association (WEA) with the condition the money be spent on adult learning in Hampshire.
The new foundation is trying to find out what courses people want via an online survey which is running until the end of August at www.j-m-foundation.org.uk.
Projects already planned include a residential learning weekend in June featuring taster courses and a September arts festival.
The bequest came from Canon and Mrs Jeffery-Machin, of Andover, who were involved in the WEA for more than 40 years.
Tim Arnold, the foundation's events manager, said: "We have the opportunity to ask adults of all ages and backgrounds what they'd like to learn, and we have the funding to deliver those courses in the location and way that people want."
