THE Totally Tennis under-12 girls' team completed their Davenport division fixtures in the National Junior Club League (NJCL) as unbeaten winners.

Their latest match - against City of Portsmouth - was scheduled to be a home fixture, but the team from Totally Tennis agreed to play at ROKO Gym in Portsmouth to assist their opponents with match scheduling.

In the singles, Rachel Whiteside beat Reagan Greenwood 6-1, 6-1 and Jenny Peebles beat Iman Muhammed 6-1, 6-0.

Sophie Hall lost 6-3, 6-2 against Elizabeth Hebbes to leave the overall score at 2-1 to Totally Tennis.

The match started at 7pm and the venue does not have floodlights, so the girls were forced to play the doubles in near darkness.

It was therefore agreed by both sides to play a shorter second set and Whiteside and Peebles secured a 6-2, 4-2 victory against Greenwood and Muhammed.

After also beating Totton and Eling and The Avenue in the Davenport division, the Basingstoke team will now play Alresford, the runners-up of the Hingis division, in the next few weeks.

The under-14 girls from Totally Tennis have won two of their fixtures and have one left to play.

After losing their first tie against Winchester, the team of Stephanie Catlin, Aimee Paterson, Laura Cable and sisters Katie and Sophie Hall rallied to win their next two fixtures - against Warsash and Hale Gardens.

In the Warsash tie, Catlin beat Lauren Howard 6-2, 6-0, Paterson defeated Abby O'Connor 6-0, 6-1, and Cable beat Jasmine Gregory 6-0, 6-0.

The local girls continued their winning run by beating Howard and Gregory 6-0, 6-2 in the doubles to win the match 4-0 overall.

In the next match, on home turf against Hale Gardens, the team won 3-1 overall. Cable beat Ella Taylor 6-3, 6-4 and Katie Hall beat Bronya Hayward 6-2, 6-0, but Sophie Hall was not so lucky, going down against Jessica Wigmore 6-3, 6-0.

Paterson and Katie Hall won the doubles 6-2, 6-3 to win overall. The final tie against Portsmouth has to be rescheduled after it was postponed due to the weather.

The National Junior Club League is open to all standards of players and gives keen juniors an opportunity to represent their club at both social and competitive levels.

The NJCL is supported by the Lawn Tennis Association and it is the largest singles-based league competition in Great Britain.

Every county in the UK is represented, with more than 2,750 teams entering.
