Hampshire League Division 3 North West - Wherwell (81 for 2) beat Dinton (80 all out) by 8 wickets
AFTER relegation at the end of last season Wherwell put in plenty of practice over the winter, and were determined to shine in what they regard as a season-long fight for promotion.
After losing the previous week to Upper Clatford by two wickets, Wherwell turned out to face Dinton with a determined look in their eyes.
After two days of solid rain, Saturday was a welcome break but having soaked up so much water, the ground was never going to be easy.
Wherwell lost the toss and were invited to field. Dinton were determined to set a high total, but Wherwell responded with 24 overs of superb bowling from Jon Holman (5 for 30) and Craig Beckingham (2 for 23).
Keeping up a fast turnaround between overs Wherwell had bowled 35 overs in 1 hour 45 minutes, and Dinton were all out for 80 runs.
Wherwell then went in to bat with only two runs needed per over.
After a superb show with the bat from Gavin Rowland (36) and Stephen Humberstone (27), Wherwell reached their target in only 21 overs.
