Commonwealth heptathlon champion Kelly Sotherton starts her preparations for a major Championship double when she competes at next month's Norwich Union British Grand Prix.

The Olympic heptathlon bronze medallist has recovered from a back injury and operation and will contest the long jump at Gateshead on June 11.

The Isle of Wight born Birchfield Harrier is now aiming to challenge strongly for similar success at the European Championships in Gothenburg in August.

Sotherton, 29, will be up against her British rival Jade Johnson.

Russia's Olympic long jump title holder Tatyana Lebedeva, who cleared an impressive 6.87m to win at the north east venue in 2004, is also in the line-up.
