LANDFORD village hall's new £57,000 extension has been officially opened by Wiltshire County Council's chairman, Bill Moss.

Parish councillors and Salisbury District Council's Alderbury and Whiteparish ward member Leo Randall, who represents the village, were present. Grants from Salisbury District Council and the parish authority helped pay for the extension and £19,750 came from Cleaning Service Group via landfill tax credits enabler Community First.

Dr Ian Carnell from CSG and Community First's Bob Bradshaw watched the official opening of the new extension, which will be used to store sports equipment. Landford Village Hall's treasurer, David Hamilton, said the facility (first opened by Salisbury MP Robert Key in 1993) was well used by villagers and the local primary school.

David said: "Half the funding came from grants and the rest came from the village hall association. It's taken us about 13 or 14 years to get the extension. We've got to do some more fundraising now for floor improvement in the meeting room to finish the hall improvements off. That will probably cost around £10,000," said David.
