SENIOR Stanbridge Earls students recently returned from a rugby and netball tour of South Africa.
The sporting memories were matched by many other personal, cultural and educational experiences, which many will carry forward long after leaving the school.
Rugby and netball matches were sandwiched in between a walk on Table Mountain, diving with sharks, bungee jumping and bridge-swinging, and close-range encounters with cheetahs, crocodiles and ostriches.
The party also visited the shanty towns, where people had very little but gave a friendly welcome and behaved in a dignified manner.
Stanbridge were the first overseas team to take part in the Mosselbay Festival of rugby, netball and hockey. Results were mixed but the rugby players had to endure 38 degree heat, grass burns and rock-hard pitches. The support from their South African hosts was amazing.
