FOR decades Moodys hardware store in Bishopstoke, near Eastleigh, has been a cornerstone of the community.

Whenever the locals ran out of that all-important item to finish a job, Moodys hardware store would have it.

Moodys is about to disappear - and no one is more upset than 63 year-old Dennis Bodman.

Dennis was just a lad straight from school when he started work at the hardware store 48 years ago.

It was a sad moment when the father-of-two from Fair Oak helped owner Jim Waterman put up the shutters for the last time.

The business is yet another victim of the wind of change that has blown through the nation's high streets.

Jim, 49, who took over Moodys, in Spring Close, 23 years ago, said: "It is sad to be closing because I have enjoyed every moment here. Our customers are sorry to see us go but they understand the pressures we are under."

He said that other independent hardware stores had closed in neighbouring Eastleigh and Chandler's Ford.
