PEDESTRIANS, horse riders and cyclists now have a new route linking Lee-on-the-Solent to Peel Common.

The shared cycleway and footpath in Broom Way, the B3385, will come in handy for students at Crofton School in Stubbington, but also a large number of other users.

The work was made possible thanks to £425,000 in funding from the developers of Cherque Farm and there is also additional lighting, new kerbs, improved drainage and a horse crossing point.

Opening the new route Hampshire County Council's executive member for environment, Tim Knight, said: "We were very concerned that disruption to traffic should be kept to an absolute minimum on this busy road, and the fact that we did so is due in no small part to the contractor.

"The end result is a major transformation from a road that had a poor surface to one that can be safely used by pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders as well as traffic."
