Watched by a global audience of billions, superstars such as England's David Beckham, France's Thierry Henry and the Brazilian Ronaldinho will light up the world stage in their quest for glory.

Football fever is sweeping Hampshire with fans decorating their homes and cars with flags and banners in readiness for England's first match - against Paraguay in Frankfurt on Saturday, June 10.

The competition kicks off the day before, when hosts Germany play Costa Rica in Munich.

To mark the occasion, the Daily Echo is launching a competition to find the best decorated house, club, pub, shop, office or restaurant.

You do not have to be supporting England to join in the fun. Anyone backing other countries such as Poland, the Italian Azzuri, France's Les Blues, Australia's Socceroos or Trinidad and Tobago, are welcome to get in touch.

A World Cup goodie bag is on offer for the lucky winners.

Kicking off our competition are football crazy couple, Matt Swartz, 20, and Melissa Ward, 21.

The patriotic pair have decorated the entire front of their terraced house in Eastleigh with England flags - in the hope that Beckham, Theo Walcott, Wayne Bridge, Peter Crouch, Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and the rest of the team will bring back the famous trophy.

The couple, of Westfield Road in Eastleigh, have no doubt England will perform well in the competition but think Wayne Rooney's foot will need to heal for the team to stand a chance of winning.

Matt, 20, said: "If Rooney manages to get fit, then we will definitely win it."
