Midhurst (255 for 7) beat Mottisfont (90 all out) by 165 runs Skipper Richard Blake won the toss and decided to put the home side in.
Midhurst made a very aggressive start. Opener Smith (37) was prepared to chance his arm, and May (38) consolidated on Smith's efforts.
But the Font fought back well to reduce the home side to 129 for six wickets with the Barnes brothers, David and Neil, and Peter Southwell each taking two wickets.
The next phase of the game was to be important, as if the Font could take another wicket, that would put them in a strong position.
But the home side took over with a fine stand of 99 runs for the seventh wicket.
Phillips, with a fine knock of 98 not out, and Dixon (32), with some excellent running between the wickets, put the home side in control, enabling them to reach the large total of 255 for seven.
When the Font batted, it was still very overcast.
Openers Ian Bradwell and Kevin Barnes put on 21 for the first wicket before the latter was adjudged lbw. Then, six batsmen reached double figures but none could go on to a significant score. There is room for improvement in the batting department!
The home side took three outstanding catches and Font were dismissed for 90, suffering a heavy defeat against the better side on the day.
