JUST GOT back from the British Motorcyclists' Federation (BMF) Show at Peterborough. It was a wet and windy weekend with some atrocious weather for our ride back my riding suit is still dripping in the hallway and it was worth it for the short track racing alone.

Short track harks back to the legendary American flat track racing. We watched a competitive round of this new-to-the-UK sport with singles, V-twins (and a Triumph Speed Triple) off- roaders racing round a dirt covered oval track in some of the most exciting and impressive sport we had seen.

At the risk of upsetting traditionalists, my group found it more exciting than speedway. A dozen competitors powered down the short straights then threw the bikes sideways round the bends those bikes had suspension which produced some spectacular bucking and weaving, no brakes (of course) but they did have gears.

It was so engrossing that we didn't notice we were getting wet must be good.

Next rounds are at Mildenhall on June 24 and Eastbourne on July 30 details to follow (okay, the truth: my note pad is a soggy, illegible mess).

There was all the usual fun of the BMF show bikes, stuff and arena displays.

We managed to see the Bolddog Lings Freestyle Team display for the first time, three riders performed aerial stunts 30 feet plus above the ground that kept everyone amazed and entertained.

A thoroughly enjoyable weekend despite the weather.
