IT started in a small water tank in a community centre car park.

After various moves and a surge in membership, Waterside Model Club is to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The club, which caters for radio-controlled model boats, cars, tanks and helicopters, is the only one in the region to offer such diversity.

To mark its anniversary a day of exhibitions and displays will be held at the club's home at Gang Warily Recreation Centre in Backfield, where the surrounding lake and open ground are used.

There will be model boats on the lake and static displays of models by the Waterside club and others who are visiting.

Members of the public can try their hand at manoeuvring radio-controlled tanks and boats.

All founding or early members as well as current members are welcome to recall the early days and look forward to the future. Admission is free.

The event runs tomorrow from 10am to 4pm.
