DIRECTOR of Public Health for the Southampton Primary Care Trust, Andrew Mortimore has added his backing to the Daily Echo Keep Them Safe campaign.

He is pictured putting up a poster at the Taplins Training Centre at Western Community Hospital, alerting parents to the dangers of sleeping with their babies.

The Daily Echo launched the campaign after it was revealed that eight babies had died in just six months in Hampshire after falling asleep in the same bed as their parents.

Andrew Mortimore, said: "We are delighted to be part of this worthwhile campaign to highlight the possible dangers of mothers sleeping with their babies.

"Many parents will be unaware of the potential risks surrounding co-sleeping, so anything which helps publicise this area has to be a good thing.

"The Daily Echo should be applauded for helping to highlight the issue and we at Southampton City PCT are pleased to lend our support."

The safest place for your baby to sleep is in a cot in your room for the first six months.
