YOUNGSTERS from a village near Winchester have been learning all about the long-term benefits of keeping fit and healthy thanks to a fun-filled event run by their primary school.
The children from Owslebury Primary School enjoyed a day of sport and food as part of a Healthy Schools initiative aimed at setting up the youngsters for life with a healthy attitude to exercise and eating.
On offer were several different types of sport, from javelin and rounders to playground games, as well as the opportunity for the children to make healthy meals from vegetable couscous to fruit smoothies.
Head teacher David White said: "This was a great event aimed at ensuring we give our youngsters the best possible start in life.
"Everyone who took part really seemed to have fun, and it was teaching them about how important it is to eat healthily and stay fit lessons which we hope they will take with them throughout the rest of their lives."
