IT MAY not have been the FA's first choice for England's World Cup anthem but fans in the south have made a Hampshire college's version top of the pops.
A group of music students at Fareham college recorded their own England World Cup song called Goals!Goals!Goals! with the help of their course tutor Mike Fowler and his friend Phil Swan and James Birt, who was voted the UK's Young Drummer of The Year 2006.
The song has proved so popular in the south that it beat the official song by Embrace and the fans' favourite Three Lions to be voted the best World Cup song in a radio poll.
Phil, 33, said: "I came up with the song in my head one Sunday morning and I worked on it with Mike and the college students to finish the final version.
"It took us four to five months to finish and it was voted the best World Cup song on Wave 105 FM.
"We thrashed everyone else by polling 71 per cent of the votes."
